Nacogdoches Dragons — Reid Boyett

John Krueger/The Daily Sentinel

Nacogdoches quarterback Reid Boyett (8) gets set to throw a screen pass during a preseason workout last Saturday at Dragon Stadium. After a player tested positive for COVID-19, Nacogdoches cancelled its scrimmage with Tyler Legacy and the first two games of the season.

In 2020, one of a head coach’s worst nightmares is when one of his players experiences symptoms of COVID-19 and then tests positive. Nacogdoches athletics director and head football coach Darren Allman is experiencing that “dream” now.

Due to a member of his Dragon football team displaying symptoms of the virus and then testing positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, the Nacogdoches football varsity and junior varsity squads are now self-quarantining and their scrimmages scheduled for Friday (Sept. 18) Tyler Legacy, along with the first two games of the season have been cancelled, the coach said.
