Central Heights Lady Blue Devil second-year coach Logan Smoak directs her players during a recent playoff game against Buna. For the second straight year under Smoak CHHS has advanced to the 3A Region III Tournament.

In less than two seasons under the direction of Logan Smoak, the Central Heights Lady Blue Devil volleyball team has knocked on the door to the Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament. Last year they dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 setback to Troy in the regional semifinals.

Tonight the Lady Devils, who are knocking on that door to the state tourney and 73-22 in the last two seasons under Smoak, are determined to knock that door down and advance to State next week. No. 7-ranked Central Heights will bring a 41-9 mark into Lobo Coliseum at Longview High School, and battle No. 2 West in a Class 3A Region III Semifinal game at 8 p.m.

The other semifinal will match District 19-3A champion and No. 10 Lexington against District 24-3A champ East Bernard at 6 p.m.

The winners of the two semifinals will battle Saturday at 4 p.m. for the right to head to the state tourney in Austin.
