The top four teams in the District 22-2A boys race picked up wins on Friday night as the playoff spots began to formulate with five regular season games remaining.

Shelbyville (8-1) edged Woden (3-6), 59-52, Garrison (6-3) defeated Martinsville (0-9), 68-32, Tenaha (8-1) rolled Timpson (4-5), 61-40, and San Augustine (4-3), bumped Joaquin (1-8), 44-32.

In other area boys games on Friday, Nacogdoches took down John Tyler, 73-51, in 16-5A action, Central edged Central Heights, 51-47, in 21-3A, Gary topped Douglass, 66-49, in 21-2A and Laneville knocked off Chireno, 73-42, in 28-1A. Also, the Woden JV defeated Shelbyville, 36-29, and Huntington bumped off the Center Roughriders, 50-45.

In girls action, Nacogdoches rolled past John Tyler, 48-41, Central Heights stopped Central, 58-36, Woden throttled Shelbyville, 58-45, Garrison defeated Martinsville, 47-34, and Douglass was all over Gary, 66-15.

BOYS

Garrison 68, Martinsville 32 — Ja’Kadric Watts scored 17 points to lead the ’Dogs past the Pirates.

Other scorers for Garrison were: Christian Jernigan, 9; Brad Reynolds, 7; Justin Malnar, 6; Kelvin Rather, 6; Kevin Page, 5; and Jaterious McCallister, 5.

Scorers for Martinsville were: Mikah Kressin, 11; Josh James, 7; Karson Moore, 6; Cade Mervin, 3; Morgan Bass, 3; and Christopher, 2.

#4 Shelbyville 59, Woden 52 — Reid Taylor scored 14 points and Joseph Ramirez added 13, but the Eagles fell short to the Dragons.

Other scorers for Woden were: Luke Frazier, 10; Chance Lawson, 8; and Luis Acosta, 7.

#25 Gary 66, Douglass 49 — The Bobcats picked up a win over Douglass.

Scorers for the Indians were: Cory Melton, 17; Gentry Thornton, 10; Jacob Bruener, 6; Chayson Brown, 5; and Jace Bobo, 5.

Woden JV 36, Shelbyville 29 — Jose Velasco, Kaden Hand and Bennett Anglin each scored seven as the Woden JV knocked off the Dragons.

Other scorers for the Eagles were: Nic Weeks, 5; Gage Torbert, 4; Trey Pleasant, 3; and Dean Brown, 1.

GIRLS

Nacogdoches 48, John Tyler 41 — The Lady Dragons secured a 48-41 win over John Tyler at home.

Scorers for the Lady Dragons were: Samantha Fields, 14; Teunia Randle, 10; Lauren Edwards, 10; Jakeysia Flemon, 7; Dee Russ, 5; and D.K. Williams, 2.

Central Heights 58, Central 36 — The Central Heights Lady Blue Devils used a 21-point first period to beat Central, 58-36, Friday night in Russell Gymnasium.

Despite an eight-point second quarter, the Lady Blue Devils ended the third quarter with 14 points, and added 15 points in the fourth.

Anna Huddleston Nakayln Wells led the Lady Blue Devils with 12 points apiece, followed closely behind by AJ Johnson with 11. Halle Carden chipped in six points, while Molly Miller and Eillie Davis had five points each. Brynley Thomas scored four, and Ryan Rector added three to her tally.

Garrison 47, Martinsville 34 — The Lady Bulldogs topped Martinsville.

Scorers for Garrison were: Lexi Johnson, 21; Haven Shepherd, 8; Ravyn Gates, 6; Draven Lawrence, 4; Ashlyn Smelley, 3; Sailor Murdock, 3; and Jada Caraway, 2.

Scorers for MHS were: Carmen Choate, 21; Megan Choate, 9; Gracie Whitehead, 3; and Alice Ann Kressin, 1.
